In 2025, the project “Women-Led Green Businesses for Sustainable Agriculture in Viet Nam” (We4Ag) was officially launched in Tuyen Quang and Cao Bang provinces. Funded by the European Union (EU), the project is implemented by CARE International in Viet Nam in partnership with MEVI Social Impact Business (MEVI SIB), the Tuyen Quang Women’s Union, the Cao Bang Department of Science and Technology, and other local partners.

Running until February 2028, We4Ag aims to strengthen the capacity of women engaged in agricultural production and business, enabling them to adopt greener, more sustainable practices and digital technologies while contributing to climate-resilient communities.

Supporting Women to Lead the Green Agricultural Transition

In northern mountainous provinces such as Tuyen Quang and Cao Bang, agriculture remains the primary source of livelihood for most households, particularly ethnic minority women. However, local farmers continue to face significant challenges, including small-scale production, limited technical knowledge, increasing impacts of climate change, and difficulties in accessing markets and technology.

Although women play a central role in agricultural production, they often face barriers to accessing resources, technical training, finance, and economic decision-making opportunities.

Through We4Ag, CARE and its partners seek to equip women with the knowledge, skills, and opportunities needed to become leaders in the transition toward greener and more sustainable agricultural systems.

Reaching 10,000 Women with Sustainable Agriculture Solutions

Across Tuyen Quang and Cao Bang, the project will focus on three key areas:

  • Strengthening sustainable agricultural production capacities for 10,000 women through both online and in-person training on green agriculture, circular farming, organic production, and low-emission agricultural practices. Among them, 1,500 women are expected to receive certification through MEVI’s training program.
  • Enhancing processing knowledge and skills for 4,000 women to help reduce waste, increase product value, and promote circular economy approaches in agricultural production and processing.
  • Expanding market access opportunities for 1,000 women by supporting the development of online stores, promoting digital business skills, and connecting women producers with agricultural distribution channels both within and beyond their provinces.

A strong emphasis will also be placed on digital transformation, enabling rural women to access knowledge, innovate their products, and expand business opportunities through digital platforms.

Building a Women-Led Green Agriculture Ecosystem

During the project launch events, representatives from government agencies and partner organizations highlighted the critical role of women in advancing sustainable agricultural development.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu, Director of MEVI SIB, emphasized that digital technology is not only a tool but also a key enabler for rural women to access knowledge, innovate products, and connect with markets. Through We4Ag, MEVI will support the development of user-friendly online learning platforms, digital transformation initiatives, and e-commerce systems for women entrepreneurs.

Mr. Nong Thanh Than, Deputy Director of the Cao Bang Department of Science and Technology, described We4Ag as a strong example of international cooperation that leverages science, technology, and digital transformation to enhance women’s participation in green agricultural value chains. The project is expected to help women lead green production and business models, contributing to environmental protection, household economic development, and sustainable local growth.

Representing CARE International in Viet Nam, Ms. Vuong Thai Nga, Program Director, noted that We4Ag marks another important step in CARE’s efforts to support rural women as agents of change in Viet Nam’s green agricultural transition. She emphasized that women’s economic empowerment remains one of the most effective pathways to building sustainable and climate-resilient communities.

Through collaboration among local authorities, social enterprises, and development organizations, We4Ag is expected to promote women-led green business models, improve incomes, strengthen climate resilience, and contribute to the sustainable development of Viet Nam’s agricultural sector.
