The CARE International in Vietnam Annual Report for 2019 (covering July 2018 – June 2019) details the organization’s significant strides in combating poverty and injustice by focusing on women’s empowerment. During this period, CARE’s projects directly reached nearly 30,000 people and indirectly benefited 124,000 individuals. A notable 70% of those directly supported were women.
Key achievements include the establishment of approximately 360 new Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) groups, engaging about 9,000 women members, fostering financial inclusion and community-led development. Advocating for policy change, CARE significantly contributed to a more gender-equal Labour Code, which is set to benefit millions of workers.
Additionally, a substantial portion of projects, 53%, partially addressed vulnerabilities caused by climate change, demonstrating CARE’s commitment to building resilience. The report also highlights that 12% of all projects specifically focused on addressing gender-based violence, reinforcing the organization’s dedication to creating safer environments. These efforts underscore CARE’s holistic approach to promoting women’s economic empowerment, enhancing their voice and leadership, ending violence against women and girls, and building climate change resilience.
