Overview
The CARE in Vietnam Annual Report 2024, titled “Towards a Just Future: Advancing Climate and Economic Justice for Women and their Communities”, details the organization’s efforts and impactful achievements. In 2024, CARE implemented 22 projects across Vietnam, continuing its mission to address the root causes of poverty, social injustice, and inequality.
Key achievements highlighted in the report include:
- Economic Empowerment: Over 14,900 individuals received support to enhance their economic well-being and participation in economic development activities. This includes assistance to smallholder farmers, workers, and owners of small and micro-enterprises, strengthening their capacity and confidence.
- Climate Resilience: More than 4,700 people were supported in improving their ability to adapt to climate change and strengthen their resilience. The report features a story of farmers in Tan An Village diversifying income by adopting climate-smart practices like peanut and sweet potato cultivation, doubling their income from the same area.
- Advancing Social Equity: Nearly 16,000 people were empowered to promote equality within their communities. This includes initiatives like the “Connecting Trust” group in garment factories, which improved working conditions, fostered worker leadership, and promoted dignified workplaces through dialogue and collaboration.
- Humanitarian Response: Following Super Typhoon Yagi in September 2024, CARE provided crucial humanitarian aid to over 30,000 individuals. This involved distributing multipurpose cash assistance, hygiene kits, and cash for housing recovery, mobilizing an estimated US$1.5 million for early recovery efforts.
- Food, Water, and Nutrition Security: Over 4,800 people gained improved access to essential resources like food, water, and nutrition.
- Sustainable Livelihoods: Initiatives like transforming pineapple leaves into eco-friendly fibers in Dak Lak provided new income opportunities for families, demonstrating how agricultural by-products can create sustainable livelihoods with minimal investment.
These efforts demonstrate CARE’s commitment to building a more inclusive, equitable, and climate-resilient future for all communities in Vietnam.
